1-0 To The Lib Dems Who Win First Seat In Broadland District Elections5.30.34pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 23rd Apr 2007 The Liberal Democrats have nominated candidates to contest every seat across Broadland District. They are the only party to do so. Sensationally the Tories have failed to stand a candidate against Lib Dem Group Leader Stuart Beadle meaning he is returned to the District Council unopposed. Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesperson for Broadland April Pond said: "It is quite clear to me that we are the only party serious about local government in Broadland. Local government is vital, particularly in areas like Norfolk, as the differences between us and London are vast. The Lib Dems firmly believe in local decision making and real democracy, not just paying lip service to it." Lib Dem Group Leader Stuart Beadle said: "I am very pleased to have the chance to represent the residents of Reepham for another four years. However Reepham had the highest turnout at the last set of District Elections and it is very sad that they will be deprived of a chance to exercise their democratic mandate this time."
He added: "Only the Liberal Democrats are standing up for all of the people of Broadland across the whole of this district."
